Tasty Fruit Crumble

INGREDIENTS

  • 150g plain flour
  • 50g rolled oats
  • 100g light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg pinch salt
  • 150g butter, cut into pieces
  • 120g walnuts, chopped
  • 60g caster sugar, or to taste
  • 1 tbsp cornflour
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 800g cooking apples - peeled, cored & chopped
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

METHOD

  • Step 1Place the flour, brown sugar, oats, spices and salt into a large mixing bowl. Add in the cubed butter and rub in with your fingertips until a breadcrumb style mixture is achieved. Stir in the walnuts and set aside.
  • Step 2In a small bowl, mix together 1 tbsp of the caster sugar, cornflour and lemon juice.
  • Step 3In a further small bowl combine the remaining sugar and the spices.
  • Step 4Place the prepared apples into a Crock-Pot in layers, sprinkling the flavoured sugar between and pour over the cornflour mixture.
  • Step 5In a small bowl, mix together 1 tbsp of the caster sugar, cornflour and lemon juice.
  • Step 6In a further small bowl combine the remaining sugar and the spices.
  • Step 6Serve with hot creamy custard or vanilla ice cream or both!
